Splish splash, what a great bash! Angie and I were privileged to have the opportunity to spend this past weekend at Frog Street Splash early childhood conference. We both learned a lot of information and were able to share some of our knowledge with our fellow educators. If you have never had the opportunity to attend a Splash conference, you are missing out! Splash is one of the premiere early childhood conferences in the country. We are excited to share with you our learning, experiences, and a bit of our presentation!
Splash is not only a great learning opportunity, but it is also just a lot of fun! Every year the conference has a different theme and this year’s was a circus celebration. Here are a few pictures of our time at the circus!
One of the highlights of our time at Splash was meeting Sara from Super Simple Learning! We LOVE Super Simple and use their songs in our classroom daily. It was so great to meet Sara and talk with her. We hope this will not be our last time to hang out!
Learning At Splash
Splash is always a fabulous learning opportunity and this year was no different. Of all the speakers we heard there are a few who stand out.
The highlight of the entire weekend was the opportunity to hear former First Lady Laura Bush speak! Mrs. Bush was absolutely phenomenal! Her words of wisdom were so inspiring. She shared with us stories from her days as a classroom teacher, librarian, First Lady of Texas, First Lady of the United States, and her experiences as a mother and now grandmother. Mrs. Bush emphasized the fact that children who are read to, learn to love reading. This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we are both so blessed to have had the opportunity to see her!
Another of the great speakers we heard was Dr. Michael Shoulders. He was an energetic, book loving, crazy tie wearing, rapping author who spoke to us about the importance of getting boys to become readers. The passion he has for creating readers spilled over into the entire ballroom. Dr. Shoulders provided us with some great titles to share with the boys in our classroom. He had the whole room laughing, singing, and dancing with his presentation. If you would like to know more about Dr. Shoulders, his books, or his presentations, check out his website.
We also had the privilege of attending a session by Vanessa Levin of Pre-K Pages. Both Angie and myself have attended various sessions of her’s over the years and she never disappoints. Vanessa has some fantastic ideas on helping students increase their alphabet knowledge. She presented us with some practical games and activities for the classroom that are simple, fun, and cost effective.
Making A Splash!
We did our own part to make a splash at Splash 2015 by presenting a session. Having attended this exact conference for many years, Angie and I both were beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to present this year. Our session was entitled Frog Street Pre-K: Pinterest Style. During the presentation we offered ideas and activities from our classroom that we found on Pinterest.
We really enjoyed sharing our experiences with our fellow educators. If you were at Splash and attended our session, we would love to hear some feedback from you. Feel free to leave a comment on this post or shoot us an email!
Here are a few snapshots from our presentation:
This weekend was such a blast! Angie and I both learned so much from the fabulous presenters and can’t wait for next year. We would like to say a special thank you to Super Simple Learning, Mrs. Jones’ Creation Station, and A Dab Of Glue Will Do for their generous donation of door prizes.
Now that you have read all about how amazing Splash is, you must make preparations to attend next year’s conference. It is going to be a tropical paradise theme! You can find more information on the Frog Street website.
I already have my calendar marked and grass skirt ready! Hope to see you all next year!
