Doodle Bugs Teaching Five For Friday

Hello again and happy Friday to all! It has been a few weeks since we last linked up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share our five for Friday. We hope that you have all had a great time with family and friends over the Thanksgiving holiday. It is hard to believe it is already December and time to prepare for Christmas. We are having lots of holiday fun in our classroom. Here is a peek into what’s been going on this week!

This week began the month of December! This year has really flown by. It seems like just last week we were making plans for spring break, Easter, and summer and yet now it is time to put up the Christmas decorations! December is a great time for reflection of the year that has passed and both Angie and myself have some very fond memories of 2015.

With December beginning we created two new Christmas themed sensory bins for our kiddos. The first sensory bin consists of red and green peppermint rice. The rice smells so good and the kids are having a blast playing with it! The second Christmas sensory bin is a tinsel and garland exploration. The tinsel and garland have a unique feel to them, which makes them especially fun to explore. For more info on these sensory bins and other Christmas activities for the month of December, check out this week’s blog post Crazy For Christmas: Part One.

Number 3

Our classroom scout elf returned from the North Pole this week! On December 1st, the elf made its first appearance for the season.

Elf On The Shelf In Pre-K

This year’s students chose some unique names for our scout elf. Our morning class named him Ladybug. We tried to make sure they knew the elf was a boy, to which one of the kids replied “he is a boy ladybug…” Our afternoon class named the elf Nacho. So we have Ladybug/Nacho hanging out in our classroom to keep an eye on the boys and girls and report back to Santa.

Angie and I both did a little black Friday shopping last week and our classroom got an early Christmas present…a coffeemaker! Target had a great deal on a coffeemaker that brews coffee grounds or K-cups. I just could not pass up the opportunity to grab this for our classroom.

Our classroom is in an outside building with cinder block walls, so we figured we needed some hot beverages to keep us warm all winter long.

We have already used this several times and it works great! We did learn the hard way though that you do need to properly measure the amount of water you put in or you may be in trouble. Thankfully, we were standing close by and able to get to it before we had water everywhere. This was definitely a lesson learned!

Number 5Five For Friday

This post is our 25th edition of five for Friday! It is hard to believe we have been at for this long. We really enjoy sharing a bit of our lives with everyone. These posts are special to us because they have a different feel than our regular blog posts. It is fun to give everyone a little glimpse into our world! We hope you enjoy reading these posts as much as we enjoy writing them!

That rounds out our five for Friday for this week. We have much more holiday festivities planned for the very near future. Check back soon to find out about all the fun!

I’ve been thinking about getting a coffee maker for my classroom too. You’re making me want to take the plunge and do it! I love your sensory bin ideas. We don’t have the big sensory tables in 1st grade, but I’ve been trying to sneak in sensory activity in my learning centers. They NEED those things to help them stay focused!
